Does Multitasking Really Increase Personal Productivity?
Everyone would like to be more productive. A popular assumption is that multitasking serves as a means to increased productivity. After all, thinking about more things at once allows one to get more things done quicker.
The knew-it-all-along department over at Slashdot.org has posted an interesting article proclaiming the opposite, that multitasking causes you to work slower and eventually cause an increase in the stress hormones of the body.
We concentrate on the act of concentration at the expense of whatever it is that we’re supposed to be concentrating on…
Sums it up pretty conveniently.
I can’t help but notice the coincidence of the department name “knew-it-all-along”. After all, this is something that we all really “knew-all-along” if you think about it.
